The Dell Inspiron 14z have 14-inch with resolution of the screen is 1366-by-768 pixels, while the included standard battery is a 4-cell unit. A 6-cell battery is optional. The colors on this screen are generally good but contrast wasn’t as impressive. The WLED backlighting in our review unit is pretty even and offers a range of brightness settings.
The aluminum-cladded Dell Inspiron 14z is slightly less than 1 inch thin with a starting weight of 5 pounds and comes in black or red color and with a chiclet keyboard. Inside the case, there are Intel Core i3-2330M or i5-2410M CPUs with integrated Intel HD 3000 series graphics, up to 8GB RAM, and a 640 or 750GB HD with Win 7 Home Premium. Despite its thinness, the Dell Inspiron 14z incorporates a built-in DVD burner.
Dell Inspiron 14z has a 1MP webcam, 2 X 1.5W stereo speakers, mic, Wi-Fi, and optional Bluetooth.
The port selection on the Dell Inspiron 14z is retty average for a budget 14-inch notebook with one or two exceptions. Dell included three USB ports, VGA and HDMI video out ports, Ethernet, and a multi-format memory card reader. Unlike the Studio 14z, which sacrifices an optical drive for the sake of portability, the Inspiron 14z includes a standard 8x CD/DVD burner with dual-layer support. The Dell Inspiron 14z lacks an ExpressCard slot, FireWire, and eSATA, so if those ports are important to you then you’ll need to look elsewhere.
